A Scrapbook Page

I have to admit, I'm not very adept in doing scrapbook pages. They have kept me running for higher ground now, going on nearly 20 years. Why, you ask? I knew that "once hooked" I'd own the store, literally!

I've dabbled in every sort of craft imaginable, and those things have served me well all these years. There was never a lack of ideas for all the cub scout projects and girl scout projects we were faced with.

And now, here I am stuck with a challenge that made me face my worst fears.....a challenge that called for scrapbooking! Yikes! I am not very good at this, but I can see it could easily lead me down a whole new road! Only problem is....I have thousands of pictures! Where does one put all the scrapbooks that would hold all those pictures???

Challenge 33 calls for creative ideas for a Fall themed scrapbook page!

Don't laugh too hard! It's my first attempt!

From time to time, I get together with friends and reconnect! Usually we sit at a Starbucks sipping something marvelous, and talk for hours! How is it, that women can do that??? Perhaps its because we really listen to each other, encourage each other, and can just unload! I know that I'm "safe" with such great friends, and that our visits, though few and far in-between, are much needed therapy!

Today's card is inspired by these get-togethers! I CASED my idea from Becky Roberts, one of my favorite stampers! You can check her creations out here.

Today, I was sad because I don't have the new Medallion background stamp and everyone is making such amazing cards with it. So, I sat here just drooling and oogling all these great cards. Then it occurred to me that I might be able to improvise that awesome look!

With the help of my trusty little post-it notes, I was able to create a similar look using the Bella Toile background stamp. Here is my card.

Again, I am loving those little button flowers so I had to incorporate those into this card. I punched the circles from cardstock and dsp, crumpled them up really good, and then roughed up the edges a bit more and inked them with little sponge daubers. I sewed the button on, using linen thread and a large darning needle.

On a personal note:

We had the most amazing storm late last night, bringing rain, lightning, and a whole lot of thunder! It was still going strong when I got up, though the rain had mostly let up. My yard needed that drink badly as my sprinkler system is down once again. Hopefully, I'll have it back up and running this weekend!

And hurray for the weekend! I've survived my first week of work as an elementary school nurse's assistant! Sure is a change from the high school, but I am loving it alot!!!

I loved yesterday's color combo so much, I had to play with it again!

Today, I was inspired by the card on page 100 of our current SU catalog! I made some small changes, like the colors, and I used distressing alot on edges. What do you think?

Hi Stampers!

This week's challenge on StampinUpLNStampers group is to CASE a card from the current Stampin'Up catalog, but you must change at least two things about that card, AND make it kid friendly!

The card I chose to case is from page 126. The things I did differently to my card are: texturized the base card, changed the colors, added brads to the flowers, distressed the edges of my focal piece, and changed the greeting!

This card will be given to a special young lady! I know she will love it since I used her favorite colors!

It's Back To School week for us! We've had another amazing summer and once again, I am reminded of how blessed I am! I do enjoy working for the school district, so I can enjoy a summer off with my family! We had so much fun, but it's time to get back to work and dream about our next adventure! (It's coming up very soon! We are going to visit that new little girl in our lives.....precious little Clare Marie! Can't wait!)

I am so inspired by many wonderful stampers that I just can't help myself sometimes to CASE their work!

Today's card is CASED primarily from one such amazing stamper, JENN. You can view her awesome creations HERE.

I love the colors she chose in her creation! They are so bright and vibrant! I began with Crushed Curry card stock, one of our new In Colors.

I ran this thru the Big Shot and one of the fun texturz plates.

For the main focal point, I layered Rich Razzleberry with Melon Mambo and DSP Razzleberry Lemonade. I wrapped that with the 1/2" Polka Dot Grosgrain Ribbon in Crushed Curry, and fed the "knot" thru a white jumbo grommet. You won't be able to punch the grommet thru all those layers, so I used two medium size glue dots under the knot to hold everything in place.

My next layer is Rich Razzleberry with Melon Mambo. I stamped the Celebrate You from "Party Hearty" stamp set and punched that out with our scallop circle punch. I layered a 1" circle of Melon Mambo and a 3/4" circle of Very Vanilla, which I had stamped and colored the little cupcake from "Crazy For Cupcakes".

My sentiment is from the "Party Hearty" set, punched out with our Modern Label Punch and layered on matching Movers and Shapers Die Piece.

While I really LOVED Jenn's creation, I equally love my card too! Thanks Jenn, for allowing me to share your card alongside mine!!! You are amazing!

You Take The Cake!

My third card for this week's challenge for cards using a Monochromatic look, is this birthday card.

I started with Rich Razzleberry card stock, one of our new In Colors. I paired it up with Razzleberry Lemonade Designer Series Paper.

I stamped my main image, a cupcake from "Crazy For Cupcakes" stamp set, on Orchid Opulence and a striped paper from Cottage Wall DSP.

Rich Razzleberry Polka Dot Grosgrain Ribbon was layered over a strip of the same color card stock which I punched with the Eyelet Border Punch.

My sentiment was punched out using our new Modern Label Punch and coordinating Mover's and Shaper's Die piece.

Lastly, I added Dazzling Diamonds to the "sprinkles" and candle, using small drops of Crystal Effects.

Tomorrow I'll be posting a "totally cased card" from an amazing stamper!

Here is another card made using the Monochromic technique. I really love how it turned out! This would make a wonderful encouragement card!

I started with our new In Color Soft Suede and paired it up with Kraft. I thought it needed more depth, so I rummaged thru my DSP and located my Bella Bleu papers. This really made the card look more delicate.

I used the Eyelet Border Punch to create the back of the focal piece, layered with kraft that I ran thru my crimper.

For my sentiment, I used stamps from the Simply Sent Card Kit called No One Like You, inked in Soft Suede, and stamped on Shimmery White card stock. I also used versa mark and embossed in clear embossing powder for a very soft glisten.

I finished off the card with Kraft Taffeta Ribbon and a beaded hat pin from the Pretties Kit.

Wanted to try my hand with the distressed circle flowers. It's amazing how tough cardstock really is! LOL You squish it and squish it some more and then open it up and layer it together. I am enjoying our new "in colors". They are so bright and cheerful!

Christmas in July

This week's challenge at Yahoo StampinUpLNStampers Group

is to create a card using current Stampin'Up products for

a "Christmas in July" card!

I awoke with an idea in my head, and this is the result!

I wanted a "country" look to my card so I started with Kraft card stock. I stamped many images on velum so I could see where I would actually stamp my images on my card front. Then I used a few of those velum images to mask areas so I could stamp over those images.

Ink: Chocolate Chip, Dusty Durango, and Old Olive

Embellishments: Soft Suede Polka Dot 1/2" Grosgrain Ribbon, Modern Label Punch and matching die from Movers and Shapers Pieces. I also used my Stamp-a-ma-jig, Stampin' Dimensionals, and Crystal Effects.

Here is a close up showing more detail. I used the dimensionals doubled under my cardinal to pop him up over the sentiment. I covered him with Crystal Effects to add some glisten.

Don't you just love how it turned out?

Expressions on Wood!

Wood popsicle sticks that is!!! Here I have used our stamp set, Herb Expressions, to identify plants! These little plant markers would make wonderful gifts for that gardener! You could even place them in the pocket of my pocket card! (See my previous post on July 25th)

Above I have decorated a small pot with our Dusty Durango 1/2" Polka Dot Grosgrain Ribbon and two corduroy buttons.

Tip: Did you know you can create your own customized corduroy button in the color of your choice? Take a "kraft" colored button, rub it across your ink pad, and/or, use your Stampin'Write Markers to ink it up. Allow time for the ink to dry before handling it though!

I used my Stamp-a-ma-jig to align my image on the popsicle stick and I only inked the words I wanted to stamp!

My Fun Summer Adventures! And Reasons Why I Haven't Been Posting

Hi Stampers!

My summer has been quite FULL! And yes, that is 'normal' for me actually! With our two week vacation to Colorado, the exciting birth of my granddaughter and the wedding of my fourth oldest child, it has been "non-stop" activities!!! (And these are just the highlights of my summer life!)

Introducing my 4th grandchild, Clare Marie!

Isn't she just "PERFECT"?

And introducing Mr. & Mrs. Dustin Shields, and family!

We had a gorgeous garden wedding that makes me cry just thinking about it! It was worth every minute of all the preparations and details! I have never attended a wedding that compares to this one! Everyone had their part and did it so well.

The memories will last forever!

God's blessings on your beautiful marriage, Dustin and Natasha!!!

Potato plants

Shipping potatoes. Great "behind" shot as I'm picking up potatoes that have fallen off the truck.

Center pivot irrigation and a new crop of potatoes!!!

Now that's a lot of potatoes!

Moving them from storage to semi truck!

Potatoes are moved along the sorting belts to take out rocks and any potatoes that are cut or spoiled.

We made it home after a wonderful two week vacation in the cool mountains of Colorado! Spending time with family and friends and enjoying the beauty and cool air was a welcome break to our very full life here at home!

*This morning I awoke to the news that the expected birth of our newest family member had occured! I'm a grandma, again! Welcome Clare Marie, and congratulations to Steve and Sara!!! Can't wait to see photos!!!

I cannot wait to stamp again! Have several huge projects to complete and share! Will be posting them later!

We're On Vacation!

We are traveling thru colorful Colorado visiting family and friends. I won't have any ideas to post until we return home due to limited computer use, and because I forgot to pack my camera's cable! :(
All I can say is this is a much needed break from daily life, and of course, the summer heat in Phoenix! I am thoroughly enjoying myself!

An Invitation Fit For a Princess!

I am hosting a tea party for 5 little princesses this week, and decided to send out invitations! This is what I made! I love the new "In Colors" that StampinUp! is releasing in a few more days! They are exuberant! I am also show casing some of the new designer series paper! Sadly, the cute princess stamp set will be retiring, however, a new princess stamp set will be available with the new catalog release on Wednesday, July 1st!

The photo above does not do the card justice. You can barely tell that the crown is glittery! It is so pretty in real life! I had a difficult time getting a good picture because I am using my daughter's camera. I loaned her my camera so she could take wonderful photos of her vacation! So, until she returns, I will be photo impaired! LOL

DCBD Color Challenge #132 Second card

This is my second card using the color combinations for Diva Coffee Break Design Challenge #132. You can see my first card here. Both cards are nearly the same, just a couple of subtle differences. I added paper piercing to this one, eliminated the buttons, and brought the sentiment to the front. These are my first water color technique cards to be posted. I used the ink from our stamp pads pressed into the lids of the stamp pad and our water color pens on water color paper. If you use regular card stock, the water will make the paper come apart.

*Remember the 60 pounds of apricots? It took me 3 full days to get them all preserved! Lot's of work, but oh boy, are they worth it! When I spoke with my father and he asked what I was up to, I replied that I was working on a huge project. Immediately he said "Apricots"? He knows me too well! I'll be taking two cases of these yummy jars to him when we visit in 10 days!

*We had an unpleasant experience at the airport this week. My daughter was leaving to visit her older sister in Florida for 10 days, one of her usual annual summer activities. This summer she was excited about bringing Sam, her service dog-in-training, along, however, the airlines refused to allow him to board. They admitted that they are the only airlines to exclude "service dogs-in-training" to accompany their trainers. It was an emotional situation, but my daughter handled herself with integrity and represented herself and the program well. We were allowed to escort her to the actual airplane, that was being held just for her, and say our goodbyes. I didn't break down until I was in my van! We did learn later that the airlines regulations violate ADA law and will follow up with letters. In the meantime, I have the honor of Sam's care until she returns!

A new challenge!

Here is the new challenge sketch, posted on Stamping 411!

I like participating in these challenges because it really helps me feel more "comfortable" in my card making skills. It gives me a base to work with....the layout. I simply pick the stamp se

t, colors I want to work with, and embellishments.

This sketch was pretty basic, however, you don't have to be limited by that. If you go to the Stamping 411 webpage, you will see many versions of this same layout, each unique and original!

Raspberry Suite!

Making a good card better, only requires a little extra TLC.

A few extra layers, good color combinations, and of course, the embellishments!

Pay attention to details!

Be sure your edges are clean and straight.

Ragged edges means a dull cutting blade. Be sure to swap out your dull blades for new ones when this happens.

When using ribbon, snip the ends of your ribbons at the same angle on both ends! Be sure they are not frayed.

Always make sure your bow or knot is beautiful!

Line up your brads using a ruler. I like using the paper piercer tool, that comes in the Tool Kit. It is much easier to use than the hand punch.

When stamping your images, practice first! Make sure your stamp is inked well, and the coverage is complete and not splotchy. (Using a stamp with large surfaces can be hard to ink up. The surface needs to be sanded slightly or cleaned using stazon cleaner before stamping.)

Last, if you squint real good, all cards look great! Ha ha ha! Just kidding! My card in real life, IRL, is very straight. Somehow, photography can skewer things up a bit! The photo above makes my pieces look crooked! Go figure!

Make Apricot Preserves!

Both my grandmothers were known for their cooking and canning! I am proud to say, I learned how to cook and can from them!

My Grandma Scott was also known for her cobblers and apricot bars!

She had apricot trees in her back yard and I have memories of climbing up in those trees to help pick them!

I try to make a couple of cases of apricots for my father! It makes him very happy and reminds him of his childhood! I won't disappoint him this year! We will be toting 2 cases of these yummy jars to him next month when we visit!

Would you like a lip-smacking, yummy apricot recipe???

Grandma's Apricot Bars (dated 1965)

Mix together in a bowl:

1 -1/2 c. sifted flour

1 t. baking powder

1/4 t. salt

Stir in:

1- 1/2 c. oatmeal (uncooked)

In a separate bowl, cream together:

3/4 c. butter

1 c. brown sugar

Combine your sugar/butter mixture with your flour/oatmeal mixture and mix until crumbly.

Press 2/3rds of this into the bottom of a greased 9X13" pan.

Spread 2 cups of apricot preserves over this and then top with remaining crumb mixture.

Bake at 350 for 35 minutes.

Cool, (if you can wait) and cut into bars! Enjoy!

Our challenge this week, was to take one retiring stamp set and use it to make 3 different occasion cards. Here, I have used it for a friendship card!

Oh, the Fun Things You Can Do With Punches!!!

Are these not adorable??? And you aren't limited to fun red hat celebrations! You can make these in any color and color combination!

To make these like mine, you will need:

1/2" circle punch- about 22 stacked

1" circle punch- 1 for the brim

Boho Blossoms punch- for adornment

Brad- for flowers

Narrow Ribbon- for hat band

Narrow strip of cardstock for band around candy!

& Chocolate candy, of course!!!

A Fun Summer Idea- Coupon book!

This is just an adorable idea! Recycling is key!

It's a mini album, I'm using here for summertime fun coupons!

Each sleeve holds a coupon for a fun activity! Activities I chose are:

*And each sleeve is made from a toilet paper tube! How's that for going green?

Tips

I ran the empty toilet paper rolls thru my big shot, in-between the cutting pads on the multi purpose platform. This helped flatten them uniformly!

Cut your cardstock a little larger than you rolls.

I also used sticky strip tape to secure my cardstock to the tubes.

Here is yet another card celebrating summer! I love the stamp set "Just Beachy" with it's fun images!

These flip flops have seen alot of sand this summer! They are waiting for the trip back home!

Memories, continued!

We never realized how tired we were until we would leave the beach. It was only a short drive to my grandparents house overlooking the small city and ocean. You could either park on the street below the house and walk up 100 steps, or park on the street above their house. Either way, we had to stop at the kitchen door, strip down to nothing and hose off all the sand! It never ceased to amaze me just how much sand we would bring home on our bodies and in our bathing suits!

More Summer Time Fun!

Summer Time Memories

Growing up my summers were filled with swimming, visiting relatives and the occassional camping trip!

Once school was out, mom had us enrolled in swimming lessons! It was either at our local pool or in California while we were visiting our grandparents. I don't know if she realized what a smart thing that was or not, but she must have enjoyed her morning hours without children! Time to catch up with old friends, sit and enjoy uninterrupted coffee, and be with her parents!

We would be busy with swimming and arts & craft classes for the entire morning, and this would last two weeks. Once we completed our level of swim lessons, she would take us to the beach!!! We lived for that day!

I remember the smells and sounds of the ocean as if I were standing there right now! We would play for hours, running thru the water, playing in the sand, and diving thru the waves!

This card reminds me of summer! What was your favorite memory of summer as a kid?

I was asked about the baby cards I made, so here is one so you can see the texturized detail better! I love that it has the look of seersucker fabric! Don't you?

I kept mine very simple, however you could make yours with lacy sleeves, neckline, add tiny buttons, and even snaps across the bottom!

Baby, I've been busy!

Here is my latest project, a pretty big one at that!

I've made a package of 25 cards, all adorable baby onesies! I thought they would make wonderful thank you cards for the mother-to-be to send out!

I found my basic instructions here at Lauren's blog!

I ran my cards thru the Big Shot with the texturizing plates. I love that they have a seersucker look! I wanted to keep them simple and am very pleased with the finished product!

Paper: Pastel colored cardstock, I used Pink Pirouette, Baja Breeze, Certainly Celery, So Saffron, and Almost Amethyst and Glossy White.

I have learned that when the going gets tough, I've got to put my praise ON! It doesn't take rocket science to see how far I've come or Who to give the credit to! Time and time again, He has always been there, always come thru, and will always be my faithful provider!

I wanted to make a card for Father's Day, so this met both needs! Too bad we didn't have a stamp that says something like: "Big Stories Told Here!" LOL

Something Froggy!

A friend asked if I could make a frog card similar to one she had received in the mail. Her card simply had a frog image. Immediately I thought about all our wonderful punches!

My grandson helped me with the placement of the eyes. We tried them in several different directions, and he finally chose this, so that the eyes were feasting on our little flies!

This was fun to make and a definite "out of my box" card! But card making is supposed to be fun, right?

Delicate and Lovely Ribbon Necklace!

This is another idea I had, using the same Hodgepodge Hardware as I did in my previous post for the bookmark. This time I made a lovely necklace, perfect for a Mother's Day present!

Using jump rings, I placed one at the top and the other thru the brad hole in the bottom. I threaded enough Bashful Blue 1/4" grosgrain ribbon thru the top jump ring to make a nice length necklace and tied it off.

On the bottom, I took a 1.5" jewelry head pin, threaded a tiny blue bead from the Bead Duo kit, (to prevent the larger beads from falling off), and assorted clear beads from the Pretties Kit. Once I was happy with the combination of beads, I formed a small loop at the top with jewelry pliers and hooked it onto the split ring.

A little tip! It always pays to make a few extra of whatever you are making. You never know what inspiration you will get to make something different!

Fabulous Hodgepodge Bookmark!

Have you seen the beautiful bookmarks being made using our gorgeous ribbons and such?

Well, I decided to give it a try and here is what I came up with. Don't you just love it? Of course I had to make mine in blue, my favorite color!

1. I started with one raised dot designer holder from the Hodgepodge Hardware Kit, in Styled Vanilla.

2. I Cut a length of Brocade Blue 5/8" Grosgrain Ribbon and looped it thru the bottom of the holder and used the accompanying brad to hold it in place.

You can see a little tail that hangs from behind.

3. Next I stamped the background image of words from Rustic Rooster,

a hostess set, in Brocade Blue, on a piece of Very Vanilla Card Stock, stamping off once. I then stamped my image of flowers from the Friends 24-7 stamp set. I colored the flowers in using ink from the lids of Brocade Blue and Mellow Moss, and a blender pen.

4. I cut out out my image using the Designer Label Punch. I also punched out a piece from Brocade Blue, for the backing, and a piece of stiff plastic. I used the plastic from discarded glue stick packaging. (Yes, I'm a bit of a scavenger, but I like to think of it as being green!) The punched piece of plastic will serve as the cover, being placed over my stamped image, and backed with the brocade blue cardstock piece.

5. I used Crystal Effects and placed a nice beading around the inside of my metal hardware piece and carefully put in my 3 layers, the plastic piece, the stamped piece and the blue piece. I applied another bead of Crystal Effects around the edges on the back side now and used 2 binder clips to hold it all in place while the glue dried.

6. Lastly, I added a Very Vanilla Ribbon Slide, from the Hodgepodge Hardware Kit to the end of my ribbon and cut it diagonally. I applied a very small amount of Crystal Effects to the ribbon end to help prevent fraying.

Wouldn't these make beautiful gifts???

A Card for My Uncle Jerry

This is my Uncle Jerry. As a little girl, he was one of my hero's! When he came to visit, everything was fun, fun, fun! And he certainly was doting on me!!! I have wonderful memories growing up and visiting him and my grandparents in So. California! I remember his favorite breakfast was milk toast, and my Grammie made it the best!

Happy Birthday Uncle!!!

When I saw this stamp set, I knew I had to make my uncle a card! Nothing too fancy! But I had to incorporate some corduroy shorts! (snicker-snicker)

This last weekend, I took my daughter and her service puppy in training, to have pictures taken! Brittney and Sam are amazing and so photogenic! They had a lot of fun posing. Some of the pictures will be used to help advertise the program! Click here for more information!

Good Morning Stampers! Hope you had a great weekend!
I was surprised by my children with a wonderful dinner out to celebrate my upcoming birthday! I am so thankful for time spent with them, and for their thoughtfulness! And yes, the food was wonderful!

Our monthly stamp event Saturday was alot of fun! We make 2 spring time cards, an Easter candy bag, and a friendship booklet, (shown on a previous post)! This is my first time using our new Designer Series Paper, (DSP), Sweet Slumber Specialty and I'm in love! I especially love that it's textured and thicker than our other papers. The colors include Ruby Red, Baja Breeze, So Saffron and Sahara Sand!

Here I have paired it up with our stamp set, Friends 24-7 to create a pocket card! My inspiration came from the project on page 79 in our current catalog.

I love how it turned out! And, this weeks Challenge#13 for LNSconvention09 @yahoo.groups.com states you must include either an owl or some sort of bird, in a card, 3D, scrapbook page, box, or whatever, as long as it has a bird!

Cupcakes Anyone?

Good Morning Bloggers! Let me first appologize to those who are subscribed to my blog. I know you received notification that I had uploaded a new project. If you stopped by, you discovered it wasn't here. I have a reason for that!

I had uploaded the photo, but didn't get the journaling finished. Then I saved it. I had thought I'd get everything ready before it went public, but that just didn't happen.

Here is the original card I made! It is nice, bright and festive! Once I had the photo up, I realized it just looked too plain! So back to the stamp table I went!

With a couple of small additions I helped this card become more attractive! Can you see what changes I made?

The three brads and ribbon loops add extra interest and help give this card a completed look!

Partying Pinata Style!

I just love this little burro from our Celebrando Creatvidad catalog! And being raised in the southwest, having a pinata party is a very common thing! So, I paired him up with my wild bat-swinging boy from the stamp set All In The Family. The bat and gifts are from the set Family Accessories!
Yes, I used my Stamp-a-ma-jig! I can't live without it now that I have learned how to use it! It really helps to put your image right where you want it!
I used a small piece of post-it to keep the left arm from getting inked! Then I stamped my little boy image, remembering to take the post-it off first! (lol) Next, I used my black SU Marker and drew in his left arm to reach across his chest to hold the bat.

I stamped the gifts, colored them using SU Markers and then covered them with Crystal Effects for a glossy look. Lastly, I applied a little dazzling diamonds to the ribbon area for some sparkle. When all this was dry, I cut them out and glued them in place.

Tip: When cutting your Top Note pieces in half, start your cutting blade in the middle of your piece and work it up thru one half of the die cut, then bring your cutting blade back to the middle and work it down thru the rest. That will prevent squishing the little pointed ends!

Adorable & Just In Time For Spring!

Are these not just the cutest cards? I love the simplicity of this stamp set and the cute little designs! I paired them up with our Delicate Dots DSP and which is only available for 6 more days!!!

These cute little cards are 3" X 3".

I used our Blender Pens and Stamp Pad ink in the lid to color in these designs. And of course some Dazzling Diamonds to add sparkle! (Can you see that I'm addicted to that stuff?)

Butterflies For A Friend!

Afternoon bloggin' buddies!!!

Here is a super easy card, that is alot of fun to make! I love the way it turned out, very dainty and delicate! I stamped the butterfly five times, three times on my card, and twice on an extra piece of white cardstock. These last two I cut out, edged with glue and dipped into dazzling diamonds. I then glued them over two of my stamped butterflies to give a 3-D look!

Room for more improvements!

Hello everyone! You will probably be seeing more of my improvements in the posts to come as I have had alot of time to stamp during our school's spring break! One thing I am finding out about myself is that sometimes you just have to walk away from the table. I get to a point where I'm finished working on a card. The inspiration is gone, or I'm just getting bored with it. Whatever the case, I have found I can walk away, and come back later and see where it could use a little something else.

Such is the case with this card. I first posted it as is on the top photo. I was happy with it and thought to myself, "Cool, now I can put it out there in cyberspace!"

Well, in walking away from it, I discovered it really lacked something. Now I'm not claiming I have it perfected, not by a long shot! Oh no! But I did come back to the table and added a little ribbon, and feel much better about it.

So, what do you think? Doesn't it just look more complete in my second photo?

Taking your cards to another level

Earlier today I posted this card using the rocket stamp from SU's Pun Fun stamp set.

I thought I would share how I made some minor improvements to my card to give it a little extra pizzaz!

While this look may have been just fine as it was, I thought it just needed something more!

So, I brightened it up a bit using my computer's photo help. But I also added two more layers of cardstock using Bashful Blue and Real Red. That helped my main image and focal point "POP"!

For additional interest I added three red brads which I also "POPPED" up by using our 1/2" circle punch and the crop-a-dile in Only Orange and Bashful Blue cardstock.

These additional elements turned this card from being okay and nice, to Wow!

What's not to love with this cute stamp from Pun Fun?

Paired up with bright colored paper, dry embossing, and finishing ribbon, it will delight any recipient!

What is dry embossing, you ask??? It's creating a raised surface. Here I used our large star punch! I punched out 4 stars, one I cut in half. I arranged them in the upper area of my card, then glued them in place. This adds interest and texture and is a very easy way to take your card to the next level!

Ladybugs On Parade

Here is a fun card using one of our new Hostess sets, Darling Dots! To create the row of Ladybugs I used my stamp-a-ma-jig. I think it turned out delightful!

Edited: I am not sure why the ladybugs appear to be a lighter shade of red. In real life, they are as vibrant red as the eyelet trim below! Just had to mention that!

It's always fun to play with new toys as a child, and no different as adults. Here I have used the new Textured Impressions Die called the Manhattan Flower. I love how it leaves a raised embossed surface, which I lightly sanded using a SU sanding block.

My leaf is made using leftover paper from the previous distressed bird card. This made a soft and feminine looking card, just as I imagined!

I am finally feeling much improved. I haven't been sick like that for many, many years, thankfully! My family was so good about just letting me sleep it off for the most part! I am back to work and looking forward to a week of spring break!

Distressing Challenge

This is my entry for this weeks Challenge on the latenightstampersconvention200809 yahoo group! I'd love to invite you to join us! You don't have to be a Demo! This is one of the best groups of stampers out there and we share our talents, and so much more!

The challenge for week #10 was to create a "distressed" or aged card. I enjoyed working on this one and hope you like it! Here are the details:

Stamps: Friends 24-7 and Friendly Words Wheel
Paper: Mellow Moss, Chocolate Chip, and Very Vanilla
Ink: Chocolate Chip
Embellishments: 5/8” Chocolate Chip Grosgrain Ribbon, Vanilla Hodgepodge and distressing tool kit.

I wheeled Friendly Words in Chocolate Chip on my card base. My next layer is Chocolate Chip. For my third layer I took a sheet of Mellow Moss and crumpled it up! I had to smoosh it together and pound it alot! I never knew how stiff our cardstock was until I did this. Next I held it under the faucet and got it wet. I opened it up and laid it flat to dry. I did use my steam iron to help flatten it out a little before cutting it to size. I distressed the cut edges slightly.
I stamped my bird on Very Vanilla using Chocolate Chip and lightly colored some of the image with our colored pencils. I crumpled it up slightly, distressed the edges, and added ink smudges with the Choc. chip ink pad. I layered this on Choc. Chip cardstock.
The words were also stamped on Very Vanilla and smudged with Choc. Chip ink pad, and mounted behind the hodgepodge hardware. I assembled that over my ribbon and adhered all my layers together. Lastly, I distressed the metal hardware by slightly smudging it with the ink pad and used my heat tool to dry the ink.

NO Fun being SICK!

This is the best description of where I've been and what I've been up to, that I could find. Only difference is that I'm a she and not a he! But when you feel this bad, it really doesn't matter! My bed is littered with tissues, my nose is swollen and raw, my eyes are puffy and weepy, I haven't eaten in days now, and all I can think about is how I wish I could be stamping! You should see the cards I am coming up with in my head! But alas, I am too weak to even sketch them out!

Do I hear violins playing??? Any sympathy out there?

As Arnold says: "I'll be back!"

Easter, a Joyful Occassion!

Today's card is for this week's Latenightstampersconvention2008-09 challenge. We were given a basic layout to follow.

Recipe
Stamps: Boho Blooms Background Stamp
Paper: Certainly Celery, So Saffron, Almost Amethyst, and Pink Pirouette. The butterflies were made from textured cardstock in same colors. Tea Party designer series paper.
Ink: Almost Amethyst and Versa Mark
Embellishments: Heat and Stick Powder and Dazzling Diamonds, Sizzlits decorative strip die Join in the Cheer, Bigz die Beautiful Butterflies, Eyelet Border punch, Trio Flower punch, Pretty in Pink Taffeta ribbon, Pink Rhinestone Brad, and the stamen from Pretties Kit.

First I stamped my certainly celery cardstock with the Boho Blooms background stamp using Versa Mark ink. This give the subtle floral background image.
Next I cut two pieces of cardstock, one So Saffron and one Almost Amethyst 5 1/4 X 3”. I used the Eyelet Border punch along one side of each, adjusting the pattern so they could be layered. Once I positioned them the way I wanted them, I glued them together.
Next I cut a piece of “Tea Party” designer series paper and layered that on. I cut a strip of ribbon and used snail adhesive to glue it in place. I taped the ends down in back with regular tape. Now I glued my layers to my card.
Moving to my Sizzix machine, I cut out the small butterflies from my new “Beautiful Butterflies” die!!! I am loving this die, because I don’t have to hand cut those little designs now! I also cut out the “Join in the Cheer” strip and carefully cut the words apart so I could use just the word “Joy”. It was a toss up between “Peace” and “Joy” but “Joy” fit better in the given space! I used the Almost Amethyst stamp pad to add color to my Joy.
I stamped the butterflies with the Boho Blossoms background stamp using versa mark, applied the Heat and Stick powder, heat it with my heat tool and applied the dazzling diamonds. Again, I used the heat tool to “set” the dazzling diamonds.
Lastly, I brushed the edges of each butterfly with the corresponding ink color using a sponge dauber, to add shadowing to their wings.

For the antennae, I removed the stamen from the small flowers in the “Pretties Kit”. Since both ends needed the little ball tip, I had to create ones on the opposite sides. I used Crystal Effects and just dabbed it onto the end and carefully turned it until it hardened so it wouldn’t drip off. Once this dried I used my white craft ink pad to color them to match. I just tied them around the body of the butterfly and applied them to my card using dimensionals.

I wanted to pull out the flower design from the “Tea Party” designer series paper, so I punched out two flowers using the “Trio Flower” punch. I inked the edges with So Saffron using a sponge dauber, layered and glued them together and onto the card with Tombo glue. Lastly, I glued on the rhinestone brad!

This card was more labor intensive than most I have made, but the results were worth it!!! What do you think? I hope you like it!!!

This is a new Hostess Set called Rustic Rooster. (Ask me how you can get this for FREE!) When it was first released I knew I had to have it! It took me a while to experiment with this guy before I found something I was happy with. I love roosters and have many in my kitchen! It looks like my kitchen, blue and white!

Isn't blog surfing fun? You can spend hours surfing the net looking for awesome ideas and walk away from your computer totally inspired by the creativity and talent of others! But what do you do with all that information? Does it inspire you to create? Do you run madly to your crafting area and put those ideas to paper? Do you like what you make? Or do you just shake your head and tell yourself that you could never make something like that?

Would it surprise you to learn that most creative stampers have a "trash" pile? Cards that never get posted to their blogs? Mistakes, "dog cards" as I call them, horrible color combinations that just don't measure up....and would be an embarassment to post! I am so guilty of only posting those cards that I think other's would enjoy seeing, while the others get recycled and some even go directly to the trash can!

So, what do you do? Here is what I've learned:

1. Go to websites like Splitcoaststampers and scroll thru the current gallery. Stop and check out the cards that generate lot's of comments. Really give them a hard look. What separates them from the rest? Usually it's lot's of layers, great use of embellishments, and following the latest sketch challenge!

2. Everyone is nervous about their own creations, even some of the best stampers! We see all our imperfections and can even point them out. The secret is understanding that not everyone is looking for those imperfections. No one sees them until you point them out. So, instead of going there, sit back and listen to the "owwwww's and ahhhhh's" and let it sink in that you can create something that others admire!

3. Just the fact that you tried is an encouragement to try again. Keep trying. Practice makes perfect! Well, perfect shouldn't be the goal, after all, creativity is all about beauty in the eye of the beholder! And ultimately your recipient is the one that matters most! What a treasure of the heart to receive something handmade, Heartmade!

Thinking of You

I just love the "soft" look of this card, and am very happy with how it turned out. It's something I would give my grandmother if she were still alive! Grandma and I share a love for roses! One of my fondest memories are those of her beautiful rose bushes growing on the trellises of her front porch! When they were in bloom the fragrance was intoxicating!

Here's to all the grandmothers! May you be blessed with the love of your family!

A new technique! Glitter Window

Today while blogging, I came across a new technique and just had to try it! Here's a "Shout Out" to Renee Van Stralen, and her blog: Stamping for Sanity! Paper: Real Red, Close to Cocoa, Very Vanilla and Candy Lane DSP

Stamps: Love You Much and Holidays & Wishes

Ink: Real Red and Chocolate Chip

Embellishments: Red Riding Hood Red Taffeta Ribbon, Heart to Heart Punch and Dazzling Diamonds!

To make the glitter window, first you punch out your images. Next you place a lighter piece of card stock behind the one you have punched out. You will stamp your images on that.

On your punched out piece, you apply clear packaging tape to the back side, sticky side facing out (front). Apply dazzling diamonds to the exposed sticky tape, and carefully tap to remove all the excess glitter. Assemble your pieces with stamped images showing thru the glittered tape piece.

Layering with the Curly Label Punch

I posted this card yesterday and thought to myself that I didn't do a very good job explaining how to layer the label.

So, I have created a little tutorial explaining how I did it.

You start by punching out two of your background layers, and then punch out your wording!

TIP: It's always easier to stamp your words and then punch them out, than trying to stamp your image into a small area!

Cut your two background labels in half, one lengthwise, and one width wise, as shown.

Apply glue and carefully separate the two pieces.

Attach the other two pieces as shown here...

...and here. You will have left a small gap between all 4 pieces, extending them in each direction.

Apply glue again.....

And now add your wording!

Wha-la!!!

I hope that these directions are easier to follow!

Last Raspberry Tart for now!

Ok, so the final card this week, I have a pretty simple design to share with you. Once again I am using SU Raspberry Tart DSP, Rose Red CS, the Big Shot and Top Note Die. I added ribbon and a layered piece for my saying using the Curly Label Punch. How did I layer it, since it only comes in one size??? Well you cut out multiples and then layer and tape them together under your white piece.

Clear as mud, right? Perhaps tomorrows post will clear it up for you!

Hearts into Flowers

Here is my next creation using Raspberry Tart DSP!

I've stamped my heart 4 times, cut them out and layers them into this flower. I also used my Big Shot again and the Top Note Die using Rose Red CS and another pattern piece from RT DSP, cutting the green pattern layer on the dotted line to expose the Rose Red behind.

I finished the flower by using the Big Shot and the Button Die and layered the different sizes on top of one another and using a needle and linen thread, actually sewed them together! This was attached on top with a stampin' dimentional!

Today was a challenging day! I had to change sheets for my son, who spilled a large cup of water in his bed, then proceeded to step in something wet and disgusting, while grooping thru the darkness (we have 2 cats who "yak" alot!) YUK! After changing my sock.....and no, it ended not being a match to the other foot....I raced out the door. I was late to work. As I climbed into my vehicle I noticed that the visor was down.....and my CD visor full of CD's was gone! Someone had taken it from my van during the night! Now I usually keep things locked up, but my arms were loaded yesterday when we returned home from church and I had thought I might be heading up to get groceries later, and well, we do live on a nice street! It wasn't the first time I left it unlocked, and to be honest, it probably won't be the last time. It's just life!

Wouldn't you think that the events so far would be enough??? Nope...not to be that easy! I come home for lunch most days for a couple of significant reasons. Today I was supposed to bring my daughter's puppy to her for her last period class. Well, due to the rain, and his love for digging and chewing....he was one muddy mess! So, he got to stay home and she went to puppy training class without him. No way was he getting into my vehicle like that!

Ok, so I have survived this day, and am happy to report that these events did not rob me of my joy! So they were inconveniences, but in spite of them all, my days was more than just good!

Hope the circumstances in your day were not overwhelming and that along the road you found the simple things that cause us to be thankful!

Raspberry Tart #2 and some exciting news!

This second card is using our new DSP Raspberry Tart.

I used our Big Shot with the Top Note Die cutting two pieces, one in Kiwi Kiss CS and one in a pattered piece of Raspberry Tart. I trimmed along the dotted lines and folded the top edge over! You've got to love those double sided patterns! Carefully glued the two pieces together on three edges so you can insert a smaller piece of CS to form your message card!

I made the label using a punch and finished with some ribbon!

Easy peasy!!!

Now for some exciting news! I've been hired as a Creative Designer to create cards for my upline's upline, Sherrill Graff! I will be creating samples for her using new products from our brand new catalog. These samples will be shown at her upcoming events and shows and then donated to the Ronald McDonald House in Las Vegas. How cool is that???

Ink: Rose Red

Stamps: Only Ovals

Embellishments: 1" Double Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon in Rose Red

Techniques: Layering, Big Shot Top Note Die, Wide Oval Punch, and 5 Petal Flower Punch. (I used two and folded them in half to create my flower.)

Regarding blogging....I apologize that it's been a while since my last post! I'm sure most demo's understand that "life get's in the way" and our best intentions and plans fall by the wayside. In my life, family comes second! First place belongs to God. While that has been a struggle for most of my life, it is now becoming much easier as I have surrendered more of my will over to the one who loves me most. My desire is to let Him out of the box I've kept Him in, so that He can reveal His true nature and identity to me and thru me! He is a good God! And I am so blessed!
